Huw Pill has been reappointed by the Governor as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, after consultation with the Chancellor.
Pill joined the MPC in September 2021 for a three-year term, which was set to expire this year.
He is the Bank of England’s chief economist and executive director for monetary analysis and research.
As such, Pill is responsible for the analysis used to support monetary policy decisions and all other functions.
Before joining the Bank, Pill was Chief Economist for Europe at Goldman Sachs (2011-2018).
Previously, he worked at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt from 1998 to 2011, where he held a number of positions, including most recently as deputy director of research.
Huw also served on the faculty of Harvard Business School (1995-98, 2001-04, 2019-21).
Early in his career he worked as an economist at the then Economics Department of the Bank of England (1990-92).
The Bank says Pill was reappointed to the MPC following the Chancellor’s consideration of a number of factors, including the diversity of the current committee and the balance of skills and experience.
The MPC consists of the Governor of the Bank of England, three Deputy Governors, the Chief Economist of the Bank of England and four external members.
