Legal & General Surveying Services has hired Richard Sexton as managing director to lead a new team.
It follows L&G’s sale of its surveying arm, LGSS, to Beach Equity last year as part of a simplification strategy by the life company.
Sexton is a veteran of the surveying industry. He worked at e.surv for 34 years before joining Houzecheck as commercial director last year.
In addition to his new and primary role at LGSS, Sexton will continue to work as a consultant for Houzecheck.
The new L&G team includes Graham Sloan as surveying director.
Sloan spent almost a decade in the Royal Navy as a war officer before joining CBRE as a surveyor.
He joined Legal & General Investment Management in 2014 as an asset manager before moving to lenders including Lloyds Banking Group, OSB Group and Santander.
Rebecca Freeman, the founder of Women in Residential Surveying, joins as risk director after 22 years at Countrywide Surveying Services.
Paula Matthews, who has been with LGSS for nine years, has been appointed director of strategic relations.
Jamie Elliot has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer after almost seven years as finance director at the company.
Jodie White has been promoted to Delivery Director and brings more than 20 years of experience within LGSS, including as head of product and transformation.
Sexton said: “LGSS is an established brand with strong in-house expertise. It has a team of expert and skilled surveyors who deliver quality work and have experience in valuing complex properties for BTL portfolios, healthcare organizations and the like.
“They are already supported by strong data, audit and technology teams.
“For example, LGSS’s Property Decision Engine is first-rate: it speeds up the process for borrowers and reduces costs for lenders.
“Now, with a new senior leadership team combining decades of experience in the real estate and surveying industries, we plan to expand the company and unleash its potential.
“This marks a new chapter for LGSS.”
LGSS has been in business for over 20 years, providing valuation, surveying and digital reporting for lenders.
In 2025 she handled 375,000 mortgage appraisals.
