Generation Rent has appointed Holly Williamson as chief executive, who previously led John Healey’s constituency before becoming chancellor.
Williamson has been appointed to take over from Ben Twomey, who resigned this month and is himself a private tenant with extensive campaign, policy and government experience.
Before joining Generation Rent, Williamson worked at Healey’s Wath-upon-Dearne office in Rotherham and has almost a decade of experience in policy work.
Williamson has a master’s degree in politics and recently completed the Graduate Diploma in Law.
She is also a trustee of Hopian, a charity supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
Twomey resigned from his position to take a career break.
Williamson says: “Homes are the foundation of our lives, so I am delighted to be joining Generation Rent as its new CEO.
“The Renters’ Rights Act was a milestone for tenants in England, but there is still a long way to go before every renter in the UK has the good quality, safe and affordable home we need.
“As a tenant, I am really excited to get started and ensure that the experiences and needs of private tenants are heard in the centers of power across the UK.”
