In the 2019 general election, homeowners made up 38% of Conservative voters, while today this figure is just 19%.
In a national survey conducted by OnePoll of more than 2,000 respondents in the UK, analysis shows that homeowners overall plan to vote Labor in this month’s general election (30%) – a big change from of 2019, when the vast majority of homeowners voted Conservative. 38%).
This drop in homeownership votes is particularly interesting because the Tory Party is traditionally seen as the party of homeownership.
Commenting on the research, Jackson-Stops chairman Nick Leeming said: “We are observing an interesting shift in homeowner voting patterns, with increased support for Labor in the general election.
“A drop in the vote driven by homeowners is particularly fascinating as the Tory Party has traditionally been known as the party of homeownership. Whether conservative voters simply feel disenchanted in general, the hunger for change is clearly visible.”
He added: “Labour’s commitment to tackling the housing crisis appears to be resonating strongly with voters. 27% of respondents emphasize that offering more affordable and social housing is crucial for improving the housing market.”
