Home Buyers are warned on 30 May is the busiest day to move home in 2025.
Last year, 1.23% of the house movements took place on Friday 31 May, according to the moving comparison site, my relocation compares. And this year the last Friday in May is expected to be just as moved.
Indeed, Friday is the most popular day to move home, with almost 27% of all movements that take place on a Friday in 2024.
But the last Friday of the month is getting busier, and this is especially noticeable in May and August.
According to Compare My Move last year saw Friday 31 May 13,531 of household movements (1.23%) and on Friday 30 August there were 12,207 movers (1.11%).
Dave Sayce, co-founder and director of Compare My Move, said: “On Friday, moving is ideal for most people, because you have the entire weekend to settle then, and it means that you do not have to take more than a day off, even if you know that your move will last a little longer than a day.
“On Sunday, however, you will not give you time afterwards to settle in your new house, and it is probably the reason why many people choose to avoid it, as well as most banks and lawyers that are closed on a Sunday or that are reduced. Most removal companies, however, work on Sunday.”
With 30, a bumper day can be for both movers and the professionals involved in the process, Sayce has given advice to anyone looking at this day for their potential home transition.
He explained because of the number of households that are expected to move on this date, both transporters and removal companies are likely to be busier than normal, which means that increased chances of delays.
There is also a higher risk that transporters can miss the completion deadline of 3.30 pm. So here are a few ways in which you can plan your move to reduce the chances of delays:
-
Don’t feel that you have to go on the completion day
“Although some people will not have a choice, especially those in a real estate chain, others may have more flexibility,” said Sayce. “If you are a first buyer or do not trust a chain, consider moving one day after your completion date.
“This gives you a breathing space in case there are delays and avoids the risk to cancel or rearrange your removal company if the deadline of 3.30 pm is missed.”
According to Compare My Move, the average costs of a moving company on a Friday is £ 1,076, which is less than a Monday or a Thursday, despite the fact that Friday is by far the busiest day for movers.
Saturday is the second most popular day to move – but it remains one of the cheapest, which costs more than £ 100 less than on Friday.
Sayce said: “This is largely due to the fact that weekend movements are less likely to fall through. Most house purchases are completed on weekdays, because money transfer cannot usually be processed on Saturday or Sunday.
“By the weekend, buyers usually completed all their purchase and transferred the funds. This considerably reduces the risk of last-minute delays, making weekend movements more predictable and safe for movers.”
He warned that a midweek movement brought more uncertainty. “If the money is not transferred by the closure of 3.30 pm, the move cannot continue until next weekday,” he said. “For those who have already booked a removal company, this delay can be expensive and stressful for both the buyer and the removal company.”
-
Book well in advance
Early in the buying process, your carrier Give an estimated completion date. Sayce advised that, if everything goes smoothly, especially with a purchase without a chain, this estimate is usually quite accurate.
“If your move falls at the end of the week or the end of the month,” he added, “it is wise to book your removal company as early as possible, because these are the busiest times.”
-
Choose a movement from the middle of the week or the middle of the month
If you have more control over your progressive date, Sayce proposes to try to strive for the middle of the week, the middle of the month or both.
He explained: “Our data show a clear fall in question during these quieter times, especially in comparison with the end of the month or popular days such as Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
