Recognize Bank has appointed ex-Chief Operating Officer of Starling Bank, Julian Sawyer, as a non-executive director (NED).
In addition to Starling Bank, Sawyer brings a wealth of banking and fintech experience to the Recognize Bank board, and his previous roles include CEO roles at Zodia Custody and Bitstamp.
Recently, Recognize Bank announced that it has grown its lending portfolio to over £500 million, while recently exceeding £600 million in deposits.
Commenting on his appointment, Sawyer said: “I am incredibly excited to join Simon and the Recognize Bank board at such a pivotal time for the Bank. Recognize Bank is ready for the next phase of growth, having grown over 45% in the last twelve months. My experience in high-growth companies will help position Recognize Bank as the bank of choice for SME real estate lending.”
Recognize Bank chief executive Simon Bateman added: “Bringing in someone of Julian’s caliber shows how far we have come as a bank in such a relatively short time.”
“Fintech plays such an important part of every bank’s operational and strategic roadmap and therefore Julian’s detailed knowledge of this sector will undoubtedly be crucial as we build our capabilities for our borrowers, savers and brokers and continue to lead as ‘The Decisive Bank’.”
